Sitges Festa Major
Festa Major in Catalonian. Fiesta Mayor in Spanish. Main Festival in English.
Same dates every year:
August 20th – 25th. “Festa Major de Sitges”. Sitges’ main Annual Fiesta in Honour of “Sant Bartomeu”, The Town’s Patron Saint.
August 23rd. Huge firework display by the Sitges church.
On August 24th, Sitges celebrates the Feast in honor of St. Bartholomew, and on September 23rd it celebrates Saint Tecla, co-patrons of the city and the Parish of Sitges since the Middle Ages. It is the most important festival in Sitges calendar.
It is a spectacular event. VERY noisy. Countless drum bands, firecrackers and dragons chasing you down the street blowing fire!!! Maybe I’m a little biased, but I would have to say, its one of the great festivals of the world.
Here’s a great video that gives you an idea of what its like, spoken in Catalan, so I hope you’ve been brushing up!
